My opinion is that that is the only way to really play the game. The biggest knock against it is that you can't just save anywhere, so I downloaded a mod that allowed me to do that. It's spaceship M&B with better graphics, more depth, better mission designs, and more. The best complement I can give it is that it is like the Mount & Blade SP campaign, but with spaceships. All I can say is that after about 2 weeks of playing, I have 65+ hours in it, and it has climbed to ~#5 on my Steam top-played list.
